Susan De Maio

Director of Development and Communications

Susan De Maio joined Project Guardianship in 2017. Her prior nonprofit roles include leading fundraising, development, and communications efforts, both as Director of Development at Global Justice Center, and at Hour Children and Daytop Village Foundation. She also served as Associate Vice President of Institutional Giving at Covenant House International, where she oversaw foundation and government funding capacity-building for 21 sites and was Special Regional Liaison to four Casa Alianza sites in Mexico and Central America.

Susan’s professional and volunteer service has supported programs serving homeless and runaway teens, formerly incarcerated women, women’s rights, transitional justice, immigrants, and teenage sex workers. She has worked for advocacy initiatives against human trafficking, the shackling of incarcerated women during childbirth, the “social cleansing” murders of street children in Central America, and the genocide of the Yazidi people in Iraq.

In the for-profit realm, Susan has held senior management positions, including Vice President roles, in regulatory compliance for financial service institutions. These include Global Investments Compliance Officer at Citigroup Private Bank, Northeast Compliance Manager at Citigroup Salomon Smith Barney, Due Diligence Global Corporate Security Manager (Americas) at JPMorgan Chase, Deputy Director of Compliance at HSBC Brokerage (USA), and Associate Vice President and Compliance Director at Lebenthal & Co. She has also held advisory consultant roles at Family Management Corp., Brown Brothers Harriman, and Bank of Montreal. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude from New York University.
